About:

My name is Jen Tenor. I am currently the District Instructional Coach for a BIE school. I have been an educator in my district for the past 12 years. Working in a Bureau of Indian Education School has been extremely rewarding for me. I am passionate about language and culture revitalization. I believe that our students do best when they have a strong sense of identity and are supported by their community. Currently, we are working on building more language usage in the classroom, and are adding culturally inclusive content to curriculum. I believe that these efforts are the backbone to building student identity and strengthening academic achievement. I believe that every child has the right to an education that represents them and their perspective. As educators, we need to reflect the identities and values of our students in the curriculum. This ensures that we are presenting learning in a way that is the most accessible to our students and the most supportive for their success. My journey into education began with my son. He needed instruction that understood his unique perspective and needs. I had a hard time finding this in our local district. I decided to become an educator because I felt students like him needed to be heard, and their needs met and supported.

The purpose I am seeking a master’s degree and license for Director of Instruction is to support the work I am currently doing in my district. My specific job title is District Instructional Coach. My current job is a bit of everything really. I am an instructional coach, administrator, curriculum developer, assessment coordinator, STEAM coordinator, and technology assistant. I collect all of the district data and use the data to help inform district initiatives, and to assist educators in instructional decisions. As a district administrator, I play an integral part in curriculum development and school improvement planning. As an instructional coach, I facilitate and plan professional development and hold bi-weekly meetings with my educators to discuss data and instructional practices for their classrooms. I also assist in facilitating MTSS for the district. Because of the diverse roles that I play in the district, I feel that continuing my education and obtaining my license is important. I believe that this program will assist me in my duties and ensure that as an administrator, I am engaging in the best practices for my district.

Mission Statement:

As an educator, it is my responsibility to support a student in their learning in a way that values and affirms their identity and respects their unique needs to ensure they have the greatest opportunity to succeed.
