Understanding of the Disposition
Caring leadership keeps priorities grounded in people, students, teachers, families, and community. It reflects a belief that learning and leadership are relational and that understanding people and relationships is essential to meaningful school improvement. In Indigenous-centered leadership, caring is not separate from professionalism; it is a responsibility rooted in respect, reciprocity, and relational accountability. This disposition requires attentiveness to the needs, voices, and experiences of others, and openness to multiple perspectives when making decisions that impact the school community.

Experiences Demonstrating This Disposition in Practice
My leadership practice demonstrates caring through consistent attention to relationships and responsiveness to the needs of students, staff, and families. In my work supporting integrated MTSS systems and instructional improvement, I prioritize structures that ensure every student is known, supported, and valued. I engage in active listening with teachers during PLCs and coaching conversations, recognizing that supporting adult learning and well-being is essential to student success. I also work intentionally to strengthen family and community partnerships by valuing parent voice and ensuring communication is two‑way rather than one‑directional. These practices reflect my belief that caring leadership creates the conditions for trust, belonging, and collective responsibility.

Plan for Growth
To continue growing in this area, I plan to further develop my skills in relational leadership and empathetic communication, particularly during times of change or uncertainty. I will continue seeking opportunities to listen deeply to staff, students, and families, and voices that may be less represented in decision-making spaces. I also plan to build additional structures that support staff well-being and collaboration, recognizing that caring leadership requires both intention and action. Through reflection and continued community engagement, I will strengthen my ability to lead with care while maintaining clarity, consistency, and shared accountability.
